@Jonathan - You are right! It's hard to keep up.

@Rob - Those auto-renew subscriptions are a pain, I've been burned by many. Of course, these companies know that is where they will get us. I just have to keep telling myself to stop signing up for things online. If you are actually getting some value though (learning a language sounds pretty valuable to me) then at least you'll have something to show for your money.

Yes I can relate, to learn Spanish my Wife signed up for Rosetta Stone. Buying the CDs is insanely expensive, like 300€ but you can also go online for 75€ for 3 months. Now we've signed up for one 3 month session which she used, then it renewed automatically (I hate that) and of course she didn't use it. Now she's thinking of renewing for Christmas and I will put a reminder in to cancel before the 3 months. Now we will have spent more money doing it online than to buy the CDs. But still 300€ is a ton of cash to put out. Language CDs tend to have an anyoyi8ng habit of gathering dust. Just found our French CDs from a few years ago!

Ah well, you took a gamble, and it didn't pay off. Kind of like buying a la carte when the family dinner combo would have been cheaper :)

Things move way too fast in web development these days. I was like, what's Flex??

Unfortunately, it's hard to keep up with Web technologies without spending money. Even the newest books are on their way to becoming outdated by the time you can buy them. I build in some cushion on my rates for buying books and resources though so it's not all loss.

You can learn a lot for free on the Web, but a good book that saves you time can be a great investment.

Ouch. I'm glad you canceled it, before it did another $30. Is there any way you can learn Flex without paying for it? Like are there library books (or ones you could read at a bookstore with a coffee?) or websites that could help you? Just to redeem the experience a bit...
