Thanks for the posts!

I think the thing that I find most empowering about a budget is the fact that it allows me to see that getting out of debt is possible. With the difference between what my wife and I make and our expenses there is a path to debt freedom. Seeing in black and white that we can pay off our debt makes me want to make it a reality. I can hardly wait for the next payment on those credit card bills!

@Dawn - I'm glad you found my post helpful. I have absolutely found that taking the time to make real plans and write them down (and followup) makes them achievable. And 8 years to being debt free sounds pretty darn good! You should be proud.

@Mike - I hear ya, I'm sure I haven't beaten the go-all-out and then fizzle-out mentality, but I think I am making progress.

Great post, I've always been a "go hard and then burn out" type of person when it comes to hobbies and pursuits so this is good advice.

Thanks for this post today Frank. It is what I needed to jump start my next level of financial progress. Hubby and I climbed our way out of our past bad financial decisions and have it down to mortgage and student loan debt. Which like you said, some people sort of consider not too bad of debt to have. But, I believe we can whittle those away by the time hubby retires in eight years if we buckle down. Which would mean NO debt in retirement and our home securely our own. Your right, also on being ready to formulate reasonable, somewhat midterm to longer goals. That is basically what I'm doing with this debt. Eliminate it within eight years. Now I just need to restructure our budget to accommodate that goal. Don't you think when you make real plans to achieve those goals, it makes it a bit easier to stick with it? I think I do! Thanks for the positive post today... it really is inspiring for me!
