Site Redesign and Comment Improvements

I’ve spent some time cleaning up the site and making some minor improvements here and there. If you only read the RSS feed, please take a few moments to click through and visit the new site.

I made some typography changes, added more padding around the text, and I think the text content now looks a lot more readable. The pages feel less crowded and a bit more pleasing to the eye.

I also added two new comment plugins: Top Commentators and CommentLuv.

Top Commentators will add a list of the top commentators on the site, updated monthly (displayed in the sidebar). If you leave enough comments to make the list, your name will display with a link to your site. I did this to help encourage more comments here and to extend a little link love to everyone who takes the time to comment. This list will reset each month.

If you’re not familiar with CommentLuv, it will automatically display a link to the most recent post from your blog (whatever URL you enter when you leave a comment). This is a great way to build links to your site and gain a little more exposure. Try leaving a comment on this post if you want to see it in action.

I hope everyone finds the changes to be helpful. I added the comment plugins to add more value and give something in return to everyone who takes the time to leave a comment. I made the text and design changes to improve readability and hopefully bring a little more traffic to the site. Please leave a comment on this post and let me know what you think.

Too Much Spam, New Way to Contact Me

Apologies if you have recently sent an email to feedback@financeandfat.com, but I had to delete that email address. There was just too much spam and I didn’t want to dig through it anymore. I created a new address with Gmail, which has amazingly good spam filters. You can now contact me using financeandfat [at] gmail [dot] com.

Apologies for the down time. I made a foolish mistake while setting up a new code repository and version management tool- that’s just geek stuff if you aren’t sure what I’m talking about, it’s not important. I killed the site and couldn’t quickly fix it so I decided it would be a good time to upgrade to WordPress 2.6 while I was at it. That probably complicated things a little bit, but now I am back up and running with the latest version of WordPress and all things seem to be well for now. Please let me know if you notice any errors or other weird things on the site. Thanks for your understanding.
