My Web host move is complete, sort of, I think. Most computers I use to access the site are pointing to the new server. A few still load the old site, at my office for example, and I assume that is because they are using older DNS records for some reason. Hopefully the majority of you are getting the new site now.

Why the change? The short story- I moved from Dreamhost to Media Temple. I have been a long time Dreamhost user and never had many problems, but I’ve never had very high traffic sites hosted there either. This site is still rather small, but over the last week, as my traffic has increased nicely, I noticed some long page load times and the site was down completely on three separate occasions (that I am aware of). I am serious about building this site for the long haul so I knew it was time to make the change.

I have had Media Temple on my radar for a long time, I know of several prominent Web designers who use it, and I’ve almost signed up in the past, but didn’t want to spend the extra money for personal sites. The base package on Media Temple is $20 versus $10 at Dreamhost. The new cost means this site is costing me even more money per month now (my advertising revenue isn’t even close to covering the costs of operating it yet), but like I said, I am hopeful for the long term and expect this investment to pay off some day.

Before signing up with Media Temple I did look around on my Dreamhost account management page, but I could not find any good upgrade options. If they offer something, they need to do a better job of presenting it to their customers because they lost a sale on me. I still have sites hosted at Dreamhost and I will evaluate later if I want to move them all or not. I want to take some time to see how Media Temple works for me and I will decide later.

If you notice anything strange or have problems with the site please let me know. Thanks!
